The Story
The floor of this mission basilica is laid in ARTO's handcrafted Monrovia ceramic tile, cut as chevrons and glazed in Spanish Brown. The pattern runs the full length of the nave, down the center aisle toward the gilded main altar, beneath rows of dark wood pews and around the baptismal font near the entry. The warm brown and terracotta tones sit naturally with the white plaster walls, painted floral borders, gray stone arches and golden side altars. Up close, each chevron shows its own shading, from honey to deep rust, with a soft sheen that catches light from the chandeliers. The zigzag lines lead the eye forward through the church.
